Nova Scotia Assembly Adopts Unanimous Resolution Supporting National Black Canadians Summit

On October 17, 2019, the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia adopted a unanimous resolution supporting the third edition of the National Black Canadians Summit, to be held March 20–22, 2020 in Halifax. A solemn moment that provides a solid foundation for a national dialogue around the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, during the International Decade of People of African Descent.

GOVERNMENT NOTICE OF MOTION

Mr. Speaker, I hereby give notice that on a future day I shall move the adoption of the following resolution:  

WHEREAS the Michaëlle Jean Foundation invites Black community members, community organizations and the general public to the 3rd edition of the National Black Canadians Summit which will take place in Halifax from March 20th to March 22nd, 2020; and 

WHEREAS the National Black Canadians Summit serves as a major meeting point for people of African Descent living in Canada to have a national conversation about ways to enhance social cohesion, and promote an inclusive, equitable and sustainable development for all Canadians; and  

WHEREAS the Michaëlle Jean Foundation, co-founded by the Right Honorable Michaëlle Jean and Mr. Jean Daniel Lafond, supports youth arts initiatives that transform youth lives and revitalize underserved communities across Canada; 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that members of the House of Assembly join me in congratulating the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean and Mr. Jean Daniel Lafond on their successful foundation and in recognizing their joint efforts to help address and eliminate the various issues facing people of African Descent.  

Minister Speaker, I ask for waiver of notice and passage without debate.


A team so proud to announce the Third National Black Canadians Summit to be held in Halifax, March 20–22, 2020. This unanimous motion from the Nova Scotia House of Assembly is a first victory.
